A BRIEF HISTORY OF HIGHLAND

Beyond the design plans, the stacks of lumber, and the busy construction crew, what really goes into a successful homebuilding project? In 2003, founders Todd Wolff and Shane Pionkowski set out to answer that question by creating a different kind of construction company, one based on timeless principles of truth, respect, and integrity, principles they felt had been lost by many homebuilders.

Since then, Highland Builders has been consistently providing exceptional design/build services for custom homes, additions, and remodeling to clients in the five-county Milwaukee area.

Rather than aim for high volume, Highland focuses on crafting beautiful homes that meet the needs, wants, and heartfelt desires of their clients. This commitment to excellence and client satisfaction has driven Highland since day one and can be seen in the way clients rave about their homebuilding experience.

Our Four Pillars of Service to You

These pillars form the basis of what we do for you — and how we do it.

QUALITY

Our exacting attention to design detail and our consistent on-site construction oversight help create a home that embodies the highest standards for quality.

VALUE

Not all “custom” builders provide the same bang for your buck. We create value by watching costs and seeking creative ways to value-engineer your new home.

INTEGRITY

What if a contractor operated with only the highest standards of honesty and integrity? Highland's commitment is to treat you the way we’d want to be treated.

CLARITY

We make sure everybody–from clients to project partners–are up to speed. More than that, we’re always just an e-mail or mobile phone call away.

YOUR HOME BUILDERS: TRUE PROFESSIONALS

Todd Wolff’s first business began as a deck-building company during summer breaks from college. It eventually grew into a full-time design/build residential remodeling company headquartered in Minneapolis. During this time, Todd attended the University of Minnesota, where he obtained a dual bachelor’s degree in architecture and construction management. Shortly after graduating, Todd married the love of his life, moved back to his native Wisconsin, and began building a family.

He continued his career in construction as a project manager for a Milwaukee-based commercial construction company and later at a high-end residential architecture and construction company. But the desire to own his own business again never left him. He also knew this time around he’d need a great partner in the venture.

And then he met Shane Pionkowski. Shane graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a degree in architectural engineering. After college, he began his career at a Cedarburg-based engineering firm, working primarily on structural design for department stores, schools, and high-end residential construction. But eventually Shane felt like he wanted to put his engineering skills to use in a different way.

Both dedicated family men, Todd and Shane became fast friends and realized that their shared values and respective expertise in the construction world created a fantastic opportunity to start their own home building company—and Highland Builders was born.
